Preferences

The preferences are defined in a file called firesOptions.xml.  This file contains xml data about:

  • The initial call-for-fire doctrine to be used when VBS2Combined Arms loads
  • The Immediate Suppression Fire Mission defaults (for NATO call-for-fire doctrine).
  • The choice of grid reference to be used within VBS2Combined Arms.

The loading order for the preferences is:

  1. Attempt to load from User Directory [UserDir]\Documents\VBS2\VBS2Combined Arms\firesOptions.xml
  2. Attempt to load from myData Directory [InstallDir]\myData\ firesOptions.xml
  3. Use default values

The easiest way to create a firesOptions.xml file that can be placed in the myData directory is to run VBS2Combined Arms, go the options menu, and then use the user interface to select the desired options.  Then select the “Save as Default” button.  This will create a firesOptions.xml file in your VBS2Combined Arms user directory.  Copying this file from that directory to the myData installation directory will apply those settings to all users who haven’t explicitly overwritten with their own settings.
