Linking guns to the gun-line

Once the user has added the individual guns and the VBS2Fires Gun-line object, each of the guns must be linked to the gun-line. To do this, go to the 2D map view, hold down the shift key, click on the ‘VBS2Fires Gunline’ object, drag the mouse to one of the guns, and release the left mouse button. A green line will appear between the gun and the gun-line. These two are now linked.

Repeat this step for all of the guns that are to be linked to the gun-line object. Note that VBS2 will not allow guns of different types to be linked to a single VBS2Fires Gun-line.
Once all guns are linked, they will act as a cohesive battery within VBS2Combined Arms.

Naming convention for guns

Guns will be named starting from 1 and incrementing up to the total number of guns in the battery. The first gun to be linked to the VBS2Fires Gun-line will be number 1, the second number 2, and so forth.

Locating guns or fire platforms

VBS2Combined Arms realistically models the minimum and maximum ranges of guns so that if the user places a gun too close or too far from the target area, it will not be able to fire at that target. If, during a scenario, an observer requests that gun to fire at a target, the fire asset will respond over the radio that the target is too close or too far.

Therefore, the user should be cognisant when designing a mission that the guns are located in a position where they will be able to engage all likely target areas. Note that the maximum and minimum ranges of guns will vary depending on the type of gun, and be reflective of real-world values.
